I had a lovely, if emotional time working on this award-winning short film (Sundance Short Film Jury Award for Animation). I created a tender, haunting and gently psychedelic score for a beautiful, heartbreaking true story.

Director Stephen P Neary did an incredible job bringing it to life with such care, heart and artistry. Painstakingly hand-drawn on layers of vellum and paper with watercolor crayons, this film has been a labor of love years in the making.

I worked alongside musical director and vocal composer extraordinaire Verity Standen to produce a unique musical score for this energetic adaptation of Robin Hood. Using recordings of the performers voices, song and breath, combined with bombastic drums and found sound, I built backing tracks to support the amazing songs Verity composed.

I also created the sound design for the show to make the world immersive, playful and surprising!

Living With a Visionary - Sundance Premiere

I’m excited to share that an animated film I scored, LIVING WITH A VISIONARY by Stephen P Neary, will premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival as part of their shorts program!

I had a lovely, if emotional time working on this film - making tender and gently psychedelic music for a beautiful, heartbreaking story. I cried basically every time I worked on it! Stephen did an incredible job bringing this true story vividly to life with such care, heart and artistry.

Sometimes I find it helpful to set a time limit and just smash out a track without thinking too much, just letting the music flow. I use ableton live for music production but you can take the same approach with whatever you use and experiment with how to make music in a short amount of time that feels fun to you. If you don’t have any people who can give you suggestions to work from you could use a random word generator website to give you a prompt and go nuts making music from there!

Today I’m trying something new called “Will It Ambient?” where I’m going to take an item that makes a kind of ridiculous or silly noise and try and make beautiful ambient music with it. I have no idea if this is going to work or if this is going to be the only episode, but let’s find out! This experiment involves a bike horn and some music production techniques in Ableton Live to create a chilled electronic music piece. Enjoy this ridiculously relaxing music journey!

It’s TRACK SMASH time! Armed with a random word generator to give me a track title, and only 90 minutes on the clock, I do my best to SMASH THAT TRACK OUT. It ended up being a relaxing lo-fi soundtrack for an imaginary game called “Vague Fisherman”, where instead of catching fish you catch ideas!

A friend of mine who works at Polyend (hi Alex!) got in touch a while back about making a sample pack for them. He thought it would be cool to make one filled with samples of my favourite fun instruments and soundmakers I use in music I make for cartoons. I thought that was a splendid idea so I got to work recording all my silly instruments!

Hey there PanPals!

A while back a friend of mine from Polyend (hi Alex!) got in touch about making a sample pack for them. He thought it would be cool to make one with my favourite fun instruments and soundmakers I use for cartoon music. I thought that was a splendid idea so I got to work recording all my silly instruments!

Here’s a video I worked on to help educate primary school kids and teachers about neurodiversity in the classroom. It’s called The Brainbow!

I worked as lead filmmaker (and music maker) on this collaboration with Murmuration Community Therapy, Bristol City Council and Bristol University. It was a beautiful project to be a part of! The young people who talk in the video were amazing, and it’s great to be able to share their experiences to help make positive changes in classrooms across the country.

Hiya Panpals,

It's been a long long while eh? Sorry about that. These days I seem to go in slow waves of introversion, interspersed with tinier smatterings of public parps.

Life is good though! Having two kids under 4 is quite a ride I can tell you. Good fun, and relentless and exhausting! They are entertaining though, especially my 1 year old who is starting to pick up words. He loves pointing at my 3 year old's plopped-in potty and shouting "POO POO!" which are two of my favourite words. The 3 year old is telling jokes now, with such rib ticklers as "A LION DOORKNOCKER." To which you stare blankly and say something like "Okay?" and he'll reply: "A LION KNOCKING AT THE DOOR." To which you can reply "Ha ha."

I wrote a “Eurovision hit song” for the a BBC Live Learning episode all about the Eurovision song contest. The episode follows YolanDa Brown and the children as they create the song but behind the scenes it was actually me! I also appear in the episode as a “keyboard specialist” demonstrating how different playing styles (major/minor, forte/piano etc.) affect the mood of the music.

I was commissioned to write and produce 7 songs and backing tracks for a series of mental-health inspired videos for classrooms by BBC and Children In Need called Moodboosters.

The songs were an interactive mix of call and response actions and lyrics, performed by the presenters of each video. I worked closely to specific briefs about delivery style and content that met the requirements of both BBC and Children In Need’s mental health guidelines.

Hi Panpals!

It’s been almost a year since I last wrote. What the heck happened? I guess I’ve been busy with work, with being a dad, and mentally preparing for the arrival of MY SECOND CHILD! That’s right I gone and went and made another mini-pan, who arrived at the end of July! He’s called Rudi and he’s awesome. Since then I’ve been getting to grips with life with a 2.5 year old and a 0 year old which has been pretty INTENSE to say the least, but it’s settling a bit now and we’re all having a nice time for the most part (written with gritted teeth after my toddler woke up and kicked off for 2 hours in the middle of the night last night…)

Well I’ve given my website a new lick of paint, but it also involved a big restructuring! I’d found the previous version of my site was so customised that it made it really hard for me to add any new sections without needing to build a whole new layout from scratch, so I’ve massively simplified everything to keep things fun :)

I’m planning to add more sections to the site for other areas of creative exploration, like art (including silly drawings and stupid street art), and a place to put my photography which is another area I have lots of fun with!

The biggest news in my world recently is that our second child arrived at the end of July! He’s called Rudi and he’s excellent. It’s been a pretty intense few months getting to grips with having a newborn and a toddler (toddler energy never stops!!), but I think things are settling down a bit now. The birth was quick and smooth, and the more I get to know Rudi the more I can’t imagine life without him - he’s such a sweet lil lad!

Hiya PanPals!

I’ve uploaded a playlist of music and songs I made for season 1 of Cartoon Network’s *The Fungies! *There’s over an hour of bouncy, silly, tender, cosy, wonky, rad music in there to listen to.

The director Stephen P. Neary and I decided on the musical world being full of warm analogue synths that sound like they’re recorded to warped VHS tapes, with lots of parodies of 80s songs to create an overall feeling of nostalgia for the kind of TV Stephen enjoyed watching as a kid :)

As part of my work on the Playdate, Panic founder and all round fun guy Cabel Sasser and I wrote a full length track of the Playdate theme!

It’s imaginatively titled Playdate Theme and you can listen to it on all the big streaming services or via the YouTube video above!

I had such a good time working with Cabel on this, he would send me these hilarious and enthusiastic voice recordings of him playing piano and singing different melodies, then I got to work fleshing it out, and turned it into a fully produced sparkly funtrack! We did a fair bit of back and forth, and even enlisted the string playing skills of Jeff Ball to take the track to the next level. Woooo!

I created the sound design for the devices (the clicks, blips, swooshes etc as you navigate the user interface), and collaborated with Cabel Sasser (co-founder of Panic, and accomplished musician himself!) to make a “Playdate Theme”, as well as creating sound design for the intro animation seen above.

Hey there friends!

It’s been a while since I last wrote, and let me first address the elephant in the room because I NEED TO POST IT TO THE ZOO. Ok haha jokes aside now let me address the other elephant in the room: you sent me lots of great sounds and I haven’t made a track with them yet!

I’ve been busy writing music for The Fungies (Season 1 is now on Cartoon Network UK!) and caring for ma bebeh boy, but I will make something soon I “promise”. I actually spent an afternoon making a track but I wasn’t happy with it. Maybe it’s fine and I just need to persevere, but I wanted to burn it in a rusty bin by the end of the session so a bit of distance was necessary. CREATIVITY, YEAAAH! I think I might just start from scratch and come at it with a fresh attitude :)

Oh my gosh, I’ve wanted to do this for a long time but I’m finally brave enough to do it! I’m deleting my social media accounts. I’ve already deleted Facebook and Instagram, and Twitter is soon to follow! Here are some reasons why:

I mean maybe there doesn’t need to be any more reason than this? I used to enjoy it when it was much simpler, but now I just don’t enjoy logging on to a website and being bombarded with hundreds of things a computer thinks I want to see. Twitter now shows me what people I follow have “liked,” not just what they’ve chosen to share. I don’t care! If they wanted to share it they would share it! Facebook used to only give notifications when someone had commented, replied or liked one of my posts, but increasingly it’s constant pinging about other people’s posts, events, stories, nagging me to post on my page and AGH! There’s just so much noise and I find it overwhelming.

We’ve started trying to build a bedtime routine into our evenings so Lil P can get to sleep at a more regular time, without hours of grizzling and screaming while we’re trying to eat our dinner please we just want to eat dinner with both of us sitting down while the food is still warm, or watch Star Trek please just let us watch Star Trek we’re very tired.

Part of the routine is some wind down time where we try and minimise the amount of stimulation going into our baby’s earholes and eyeholes.

I’ve been watching the US news with horror and sadness. George Floyd’s murder is just the tip of the iceberg of unjust treatment against Black people in America (and worldwide) and I want to make my own stance against racism and police brutality clear.

There are much deeper long-standing inequalities at play here which I am woefully under-educated about, but, taking things one problem at a time, police violence seems like a good place to start.

Check it out yous guys, this is my baby! The small one, not the big one. The big one is my partner Katie who is the strongest person I know.

Following induced labour due to concerns about his small size, our baby boy was born on 6th Feb at 02:07am. He weighed 5lb 3oz (2.4kg). We were kept in hospital until Sunday 9th Feb so they could monitor his condition and make sure Katie was recovering well. After a bit of treatment for jaundice, everyone was deemed healthy and happy and we went home.

I woke up really early last night, like 4am. As I was lying in bed, hoping for a quiet mind, I noticed Katie’s breathing next to me became erratic, like she was terrified. I thought she must be having a nightmare, so I very gently took hold of her hand and started stroking it. She woke up and took a deep breath.

“Thanks!” she whispered.

In a mumbly half-asleep voice she told me her dream. She was on a sunny river bank. People around her were jumping into the deep, clear blue water. She thought it looked fun so she jumped in too, but as soon as she entered the water she sank quickly down, deeper and deeper, made heavy with our unborn baby in her tummy. Struggling, drowning, she looked up at the surface, hoping that I had seen her. Sure enough, my hand reached into the water, grabbed hers and pulled her out to safety.

This morning Katie was spraying the cooker with a cleaning spray. After a while she sniffed and said “Does this spray smell weird to you?” I got my nose in there and gave it a sniff.

“Hm, yeah, that does smell weird. Is it the cloth?”

“No the cloth’s fine. Can spray go off? Spray can’t go off, can it?”

She carried on spraying and wiping while I rummaged under the sink for the other bottle of spray. I gave it a spritz on another surface and took a breath in. “Oh yeah this smells nice! That one’s definitely gone bad. I’ll throw it away.”

Katie and I went to the wedding of one of her oldest friends. We were supposed to be staying in a shepherds hut in the woods, but a leaky roof meant our accommodation was changed last minute. Instead, to our delight, we were housed in one of the guest rooms in this massive manor house, with a huuuuge bed and amazing views over the fields.

I worked closely with the team at Cartoon Network Games to develop an interactive score for this silly medieval virtual reality game! The player inhabits the body of a jester who is auditioning to be the new King’s Jester. If they fail to amuse the King, he pulls a lever and they plummet into a dragon pit!

The player is helped (and eventually battled) by a singing bard, for which I also provided the vocals.

The seagull carried the banana in its beak, guardedly - head darting left and right to spot any would-be banana grabbers. This is it, thought the seagull. This is what will set me apart from all the rest. Everybody knows seagulls are bastards, but I will be the biggest bastard of all. The Banana Bastard.

The seagull found a shadowy corner and began to peck at the banana, carefully moving up the seams so the skin stayed largely intact. The banana flesh mushed into mash.

I got a keytar! Here is my first keytar jam for you to enjoy or not. This keytar is a Yamaha SHS-10, all on board sounds used with added delay and reverb. Looping done in Ableton Live.

IMPORTANT! Koalas can find it very stressful and exhausting to be handled by humans, so if you want a hug you should wait for the koala to make the first move. It’s just simple etiquette.

More facts about koalas:

Koalas have a very low metabolic rate which means they have to conserve energy by sleeping for around 20 hours a day.
Koalas are not bears, they are marsupials of course.
The best Youtube comment I found while looking for koala videos was this: ‘I WANT TO FEED A KOALA A SANDWICH END OF DISCUSSION’

(Koalas only really eat eucalyptus leaves so it probably wouldn’t want that nasty old sandwich, but it’s a nice image.)

I went on an excursion to Hastings International Chess Congress with some friends. One of them had an audio recorder so I made a little report and illustrated it for your edutainment and spiritual enrichment. While not the best illustrations in the world, nor the audio being of the highest quality (in fact it is quite blustery), how often does one get to go to Hastings International Chess Congress? Once a year at MOST. Anyway, she’s a charming video so chequer out.

A trip to the library goes annoyingly awry…

Written, shot and edited in a month for Tridentfest 2. In actual fact I ended up shooting, editing and doing the sound for it in just 4 days - right up until the actual screening! I’m still piecing my mind back together after that.

In the time since then I have tweaked it a bit, and made it slightly shorter. And there are now super duper credits on the end drawn by the magnificent Carl Peck.

More long delaying than looping really. Loses its way a little at the toaster, but somehow claws it back. It was pretty hard looping like this because every timing error made was amplified each time round, so that in the end the loops were totally out of sync with the metronome in my ear!

It’s a collection of raps I wrote and recorded over two years when I graduated from university. It was a bit of a headache to produce - teaching myself how to mix this kind of music well (or well enough, at least), and rerecording all the vocals because the first time I recorded them underneath a duvet and it sounded weird!

I’ve been facilitating creative workshops for 15 years now, and I’ve learned that everyone has their own way of expressing themselves - my job is to create the space and provide the musical tools for that to happen.
